I love this sort of discussion! Over time I’ve also come to the impression that the region that seems more open about farting is Europe, with Western Europe (UK, Ireland, France, Germany, The Netherlans), Northern Europe (Denmark, Sweden, Finland), Poland and Italy (though more with belching than farting) being the strongest representatives here, I believe.
I think Canadians and Australians also seem pretty open about it. The US also represents farting strongly, but I think a lot of us get the impression that the US is more open about it because a lot of us are constantly exposed to US media, so we’ll get the impression that they do it more mostly because they are more heavily represented on the internet.
However, I think that, when considering a situation where the farting is just happening because it’s happening and it’s natural and the people doing it/reacting to it might find it funny and joke about it, but they also see it as not something to overthink too much, Europeans seem to fit this description much more.
Some other countries/cultures seem to be inadvertedly against farting. I notice that a lot with Turkish guys; Tuna Tavus, for instance, gets MANY comments criticizing his farting, even though he’s done it a handful of times). Other countries in the Middle Eastern and Balcanic regions seem to be a bit less prone to it. As for Latin America, I think we have strong representatives in countries like Mexico, Chile, Brazil, and so on, but it doesn’t seem like something that people are definitely open about. Being from Brazil, I can say I haven’t seen mnay people farting openly in public, or even in more reserved spaces.
At the end of the day, all that is very subjective, but I think it’s interesting to notice how different cultures respond to flatulence. You can definitely observe some behavioural patterns.
