I wanted to share something a bit unusual that happened to me a few months ago. As someone who’s naturally curious (maybe a little too much!), I found myself asking ChatGPT a ton of questions about the science and mechanics of burps. I really dove deep into the details, and it ended up shifting my perspective in a big way.
I always had this illusion about burps, probably influenced by cartoons and media, thinking that the sound came mainly from the air bubbles themselves. But I learned that it’s more about the air being released from the stomach and vibrating, similar to how farts work. Ever since I made this realization, a lot of burps sound different to me—more “real,” and less like the playful version I imagined.
This change has affected my fetish for burps, making it less intense than it used to be. I feel like the illusion I had is no longer as strong, and now it’s more about the act than the sound itself.
I’m curious—has anyone else experienced something like this? Is this something people have known but just didn’t mention? I know fetishes can be complex, but I find this combination of illusion and reality really interesting.
Thanks for reading!

Trust me: OCD is far, far more painful and disorienting than this. I don’t say this to shame you or try to put negativity on you, but when I have OCD related to anything, it usually results in headaches and soul-shattering anxiety, not just liking something less.

Yeah I agree that OCD might not be the phrase to describe this, however I know what you’re talking about when you say “shatter the illusion” of burps and mellowing the fetish out. Two developments in my life had a similar effect: 1) learning to burp on command pretty well myself and 2) finding a partner who burps constantly. Both have demystified burps and the act of burping, and while I still enjoy burps, they don’t hang over my sexuality in the way that they used to.

well I do have OCD
but having that doesn’t mean you’ll have one compulsion and obsession for the rest of your life, you know it can lach to everything, switch and or leave simultaneously
trust me don’t think i’m some a random kid on the internet asking this to have validation
i’m asking this because I need advice
as I already know what burps are but this happened over a few months to almost a year
why because of curiosity does my perspective changes negatively about this and it ruins my loved fetish

You’re very right. My apologies, I spoke too soon. I see OCD used as a random descriptor for all kinds of things online, irritating me to no end.
That said, like all compulsions/obsessions, I suppose the best thing to do is to accept it and try to think about other things, trusting that the exposure to the discomfort will eventually get you used to it.
I do understand this is much easier said than done, though. I still fall victim nearly every day.
I should also say this post may count as seeking reassurance, which you know we aren’t supposed to do Stay the course my friend, stay the course.

Yes exactly!
it’s like maybe it’s just part of growing up I guess
and also cool same happened to me when I learned to burp on command

First, I appreciate your mature response.
it’s true how a lot of pp fake mental illness on the net which sometimes get cover the light of the truth with the shadow of a doubt kinda like the tell “The Boy Who Cried Wolf”
it is a very difficult disorder which also causes perfectionism and hoarding behaviour but yes like you said it’s really advice not to seek reassurance and because that is like giving in to it
but because it affects my fetish I had no choice but to
hopefully it will switch into something different or unimportant
ps gotta be transparent
and say that it was really embarrassing and tough for me
to make that post thinking it could ruin for others or make me hated

Nah, dude, nobody will hate on you. Even I wasn’t hating on you, I just thought stuff might have been stated incorrectly. OCD is highly individual. Like for me, the fact it vibrates the cricopharangus and UES is a part of a burp I find pretty sexy, not something that ruins it.
The dirty trick with OCD though is that, like you said, it comes on almost on an interval. Today, it’s targeting your interest in burps. Sometimes, it might be your morality, or your faith, or your feeling of being safe. There’s really no choice but to either do exposures or wait it out.

Yeah exactly
it’s still attractive and I already knew that whole science
it’s just a twisted thoughts and broken mindset that trying to twist in the head
it’s still the air when you think about it
without air or gas one cannot burp
or make a noise or do whatever
do you have creative idea how can you expose with something like this
hearing more burps? maybe taking a break?

Taking a break could be considered avoidance. I understand that we want to end the discomfort quickly with OCD, but there’s no choice but accept it. If you avoid, it’ll only become stronger. That said, taking a mental break from the subject might be helpful. Focus on other things that make you happy.
