I haven’t played for years now precisely due to it being such a time sink. But it’s one of the few online games that I’ve played that was actually fun rather than just being addictive. I was part of Phoebe Freeport Republic which had some goal of setting up a freeport in nullsec. I notice now that they stopped existing a long time ago, but that was fun for a while. Otherwise I’d make isk by flying around nullsec and lowsec in a cloaked ship and trying to make deliveries without getting blown up. Flying into a bubble with all your isk savings in cargo is a special feeling lol
I am mostly into mining, manufacturing and industry. The “crafting” system, if you would even call it that, is so in depth, all the supply chain stuff, supply and demand economy sort of makes it feel like running a small business or something when I get really deep into it. I have always wanted to do more pvp too, but admittedly it is one aspect of the game I have never really learned well, I just panic if someone attacks me. Haha.
And yeah last time I played a few months ago the political landscape of nullsec had changed significantly. The major powers had tightened their grips and smaller independent alliances and freeports are not as common. Part of the reason I joined Goons, if you can’t beat em, join em.
I wasn’t too interested in PvP either. Though I took part in a few of those large fleet battles and they were fun. I started out just mining in highsec and then manufacturing stuff too. But that wasn’t too lucrative, and I liked the idea of being a space trucker so when I wasn’t sneaking around lowsec I’d be moving stuff around in a freighter. That’s a strangely satisfying 2nd monitor type way to play. I should reinstall one of these days to see what’s changed in the last few years.
Can you create groups in Fallout 76?
With the big fleet battles and stuff like gate camps I’ve participated in I have always found it to be more of a social aspect than actual skill. We hang out on voice, drink, smoke and talk shit and occasionally someone is like “KILL THIS” and you press a button. So kinda brain dead in that sense but fun when it’s just the crew hanging out. It was one thing it took me years to understand about Eve, it’s a highly social game, although you can play solo it is very difficult in my opinion and leaves you with less options.
Honestly Eve has one of the best internet communities of all time, and a long standing one. Even though the egos and personalities in the game are massive and the animosity and shit talking/propaganda between enemies is intense, outside of the game it is a highly respectful and cohesive community. Some people on this forum could learn a thing or two about internet communities from Eve players for sure.
