A silly discussion I had with friends

I had a funny conversation with friends with the topic being, “did you guys also have those girls in your school that considered burping an intrinsic personality trait”? There was zero disagreement and we found amongst ourselves that it is a pretty universal experience for schools to have at least 1 girl that’d just whip out burps randomly and proudly.

I wanted to see if this has been a universal thing for you guys as well? For nuance, I was born in Ireland and graduated at the standard 16, but re-entered high school at 19 when I moved to Canada and the result was the same.

Growing up, I definitely knew one girl in particular who was very open with farting (not burpin) and that was in primary school. She would fart openly at parties or in front of people and not care. I believe we all know at least one girl who is like that when it comes to farting or burping or both.

That is totally accurate. My ex girlfriend was that person, so I learned how to burp specifically because I wanted to be better at it than her.

A friend of mine in band would burp all the time. Didn’t matter where or who was around. I’m not sure if she really does that nowadays but back in high school idk if you could go a day without hearing her burp

In middle school there was this one gal Cara who used to do it all the time in class, and laugh her ass off each time. She used to hit herself in the chest with her fist and release it. The last time I actually experienced her doing it was our freshman year and which she continued on with it in high school. But after that I don’t have any memory of her doing it anymore. Also In high school, there were 2 gals (coincidentally best friends) who used to walk thru the patio area and let em rip. Never saw them burp at the same time or even on the same day but I’ve witnessed both of them doing it on different occasions. They loved to do it during lunch time when the whole school was on the patio area. Guess they wanted everybody to hear it

Oh yeah, several. I was in school in the USA during the 2000s and 2010s. A couple were specifically known for it. They seemed to delight in breaking gendered expectations

I feel like the 2000s was all about being edgy and burping in public kinda came along with that image. Like when I think of people burping in public I just get reminded of the 2000s/ VERY early 2010s

It was probably less taboo than it is today for a variety of reasons.
