Can someone give me a step-by-step guide on how to burp on command?

I burp fairly often naturally, and I have pretty good bass on my burps, but I just cannot do it on cue. I’ve been trying recently to do some research on the science behind burping. From what I understand, the epiglottis is the key to this. Controlling the epiglottis allows air to be inhaled into your stomach. No matter what I try, air always gets sucked into my lungs. That’s why I’m asking, in order for your body to learn burping on command, what would the first step be for me to progress into doing it? Is there a step-by-step guide that someone could lay out? I feel like I need some sort of bullet-point blueprint to read in order to train by body to burp on cue.

My heart goes out to you, I’ve been in the exact same place for a long time, and tutorials never helped me, although once it clicked for me, I instantly understood what they were all about. Perhaps you’ll fare better than I did, however.

I trained my epiglottis by “sloppily” swallowing soda and other liquids. You can try this by not puckering your lips too tightly on your container of choice, and keeping your throat relaxed. Hopefully eventually a bubble of air will do down with the drink. Try making this happen over and over, preferably while drinking smaller and smaller quantities of liquid. Don’t be too overeager or you might choke. This will hopefully help you, over time, recognise how your epiglottis moves and works in situations like this.

Once you have made some progress and are able to regularly swallow some air when you drink, try taking the training wheels off. Attempt to keep making the swallowing motion after you’re done drinking. If all goes well, you will be able to manage it a few times while your mouth is still moisturised. Don’t be discouraged if your throat “closes up” once the liquid has passed it. I remained in that stage for quite a bit of time and thought that was my limit.

After practicing enough, the time will hopefully come when you can keep doing the motion indefinitely. At this stage muscle memory has kicked in and you can probably swallow air at will. Maybe small quantities at first, but keep practicing and you’ll improve rapidly.

I sincerely hope this helps. Don’t give up, be patient and just aim for one stage at a time. The end result will happen. Keep us posted!

Practice in groups. No shit. Or click on my bio…

So I’ve been trying to pay attention to the motions my throat makes when I’m drinking soda. How long did it take you to master this process before you were able to swallow air without the aid of any beverage? I’m trying to get an estimate as to how long the journey takes to burp on command for someone who has never done it before.

It took me a few years, but I think it only took that long because I practiced infrequently (I wanted to belch at least a bit so I used soda, which I didn’t want to drink frequently for health reasons) and I lived with my parents at the time, so I rarely had privacy. Don’t rush to reach the end or you may be discouraged. Just keep at it.
