I came across a non-scientific survey done by a twitter user. Look at where we are lol. “Belches” comes in under 1% with over 60% of how taboo it is.

Our arch nemesis fetish (farting) comes in at 2% and is seen only 5% more taboo than burping lol.

I actually used to have a fart fetish too. I grew out of it though! I just call it that because its like “the opposite” of burping in a way.

I think we’re so far to the right because the question was about how socially acceptable the thing is, and naturally burping is going to be considered rude and generally socially unacceptable. I’d be interested in another chart that asks how subjectively acceptable people think it is.
