I feel like I’m just contributing to the negative side of the Mukbang community when I say this but I need to vent it out…
I find “some” of these mukbang content creators to be some of the most obnoxious, arrogant, self-centered people ever on YouTube, literally like the worst of their kind… I’ve found a great many to be rude to their fans and to other smaller mukbang creators, and just being an overall a$$hole in general.
I’m curious to know if anyone else has felt this way or maybe had different experiences or views?
Yeessssssss, I’d say the Mukbang trend has gotten SUPER popular especially for the past 3 or 4 months to the point of over-saturation with YouTube algarythms. That’s so true a lot of them do have this entitled attitude because they’ve made a quick buck in the genre or they know that they’re capable of making a quick buck, and that entitled attitude that simply emits the minute you leave a comment on their videos, it’s just something I’ve noticed recently with them…
I can’t stand mukbangs or anyone who does them. The whole thing is incredibly stupid and obnoxious as hell to me. There’s one in particular, Ssoyoung, who has gotten a lot of flak lately because of her trend of torturing sea creatures and eating them alive. Needless to say I find her and her supporters disgusting.
So yeah. They annoy me, to put it lightly. I have no interest whatsoever in watching a mukbang video just because a guy happens to burp in it.
Whaaaaaaaaat!!! That’s definitely animal cruelty in my book and actually quite mentally disturbing when you think about it! There’s a similar controversy with “Family” vlog YouTubers who vlog with their entire family and their children where there’s been many cases where the parents are being accused of soliciting their children and forcing them to be in front of the camera for the enjoyment of the public audience. I think that’s specifically why YouTube has been so strict with children in videos lately.
In reference to what you’ve said about the Mukbang content creators, I feel the same way that you do. In the beginning I tried to be into the whole Mukbang trend but my experience in the community has left a sour taste in my mouth and I’ve gotten to the point too where I’m like even if they’re burping in their videos I don’t want any part of it just because of their obnoxiousness smh.
As with most things, I don’t care so long as it isn’t hurting anyone/thing. So the example above with Ssoyoung, definitely a no-no.
But otherwise, I do not care. Most people on YouTube today who have or make drama are faking it or doing it for clout. I watch Nikocado or Trisha Paytas occasionally to laugh my ass off bc they’re so stupid and I think they know they’re being stupid.
That’s how it is with most mainsteam mukbang channels. The less drama-centered ones, I don’t care. Have nothing against them whatsoever but I’m generally not into them unless it’s like that nonnonsammieboy bc ngl, I do find him a little attractive.
I won’t say I hate it, but it’s definitely not my favorite. Less so now than before, even. I don’t even care if they feature great burps because they’re just kind of tedious, plus I usually don’t enjoy watching people eating a ton of food. There are some exceptions (like Sade), but usually no.
Personally I avoid mukbangs at all costs. I can’t stand the sound of people chewing and mukbangs often have an ASMR component so they chew so fucking loud. To me, stuffing is gross, food-filled burps are gross, but I know that’s a popular subset of this fetish so no judgement from me. I even dated someone who was into it once.
It just mystifies me how popular these types of videos have become—and frustrating, because every time you search “burp” on YT these days it’s mukbang. Must be a lot of lonely people out there wanting to eat with someone.
i personally dont mind the practice in and of itself, its a source of great burps and im personally into stuffing so someone burping from large portions of food is attractive to me; but i see so many creators that are spiteful and generally bad people and their viewers constantly complain, so i’m aware the community can be toxic at times.
I agree with you to an extent… I am not all that picky what a YouTuber does (in general), with the exception of racism, animal cruelty and mistreatment of their fans and/or other YouTubers, I won’t watch their content even if they have burps - it’s actually VERY rare that it happens but they’re has been cases where I just refuse to give them attention. A good example of a YouTube channel that I’m talking about is “The Hodgetwins” who’s burped once or twice here and there, they’re ignorant and homophobic as hell (in my opinion) and I won’t give them not one view; they don’t even burp anymore from my knowledge because they’re probably so paranoid that a meme of them will go around, as if they’re the hot shit or something
I don’t exactly care for their content either. It’s just so annoying to listen to those people. Usually I use the transcript YouTube provides and ctrl+f on “excuse me” and leave uBlock turned on for those channels. I don’t think it’s right that people are making easy money from eating infront of a camera, but then again I could modify that to fit many of the other YouTube ‘celebrities’
Mukbangs are one of my main source of burps since they come with burps I’d qualify as natural. Unless they force it out and overplay it like Que (who really doesn’t turn me on).
(Sources I like more than mukbangs would be burps in vlogs, hauls and other beauty videos where nothing pushes the girl to burp)
I do love smacking and other ASMR sounds.
I’ve never felt concerned about them making easy bucks, despising anyone or mistreating animals (though being a vegetarian), to be honest most of the mukbangers I appreciate are smaller channels. So I “listen to” the mukbangs to find the burps (while doing sth else with my eyes and brain) and it doesn’t bother me. I barely listen to what they have to say, which causes me to miss some little burps and "excuse me"s (+I play videos with 2x speed) but when I catch some sentences, I agree with the fact it’s pretty boring
