I’m not sure how many of you know what’s going on with Pornhub but VISA and Mastercard have cut off Pornhub, as well, Pornhub is no longer allowing uploading from anyone who isn’t a certified model with proof of ID and the support of an agency. With these new rules they will lose more than 99% of their traffic. Essentially they are eliminating free porn and paid porn. I’m not sure how they think a site like Pornhub will survive after removing the only 2 types of porn in human existence. Paid and unpaid. The end of the world begins with the end of internet porn.
Just read up and it’s in response to videos of sexual assault being monetized or widely available as a whole. As well as revenge porn or stuff uploaded with spy cams If this is a way to get that to stop. (as drastic an effect it may have on the site) I’m ok with it
That’s an underage material which we can confirm is on there. Now if they don’t care, they will probably go the crypto route, but that probably won’t last long either. I don’t mind this taking action as this will slow down a popular site from anyone uploading content, but for PH this could be the beginning of the end.
Whatever. It’s just porn. There’s so much illegal/unethical bullshit that gets posted on that site that went pretty much unchecked I’m surprised it took this long and I’m glad it finally did.
There was also that whole thing with girlsdoporn.com which had a page on pornhub, you should read up about it’s it’s very interesting
Facebook receives many times more illegal, unethical etc… stuff than pornhub ever did, but visa and mastercard have no problem with that site.
It’s generally hard to find organisations that will process your payments if you’re dealing with anything remotely sexual. I’d imagine it’s just more of that. At least I’m pretty sure the reason given isn’t the real reason.
Can you provide some evidence for either of these claims? Also good riddance, PornHub was a wasteland.
Even if it is true, PH is presented as a porn site which will have a huge target on its back from the jump. Society in general is antiporn so anything they can use they will to shut it down. FB may have those things going on, but most people don’t go there with those intentions.
The most plausible explanation I see here is that PornHub was a wasteland of underage content and revenge porn*, and the credit card companies don’t want to be associated with them to preserve their reputation and protect themselves from legal liability. “There’s probably something else going on here; society is anti-porn and there’s more here than meets the eye,” etc., are conspiracy theories that lack substance, and probably wouldn’t be as appealing if the people espousing them didn’t use the site. People generally don’t want to think that something they like is bad, so the conspiracy theories give them a defense mechanism. That pretty much sums up my thoughts here.
*And sexual assault.
Agree with Pornhub being a wasteland, disagree with the “conspiracy theory” aspect. PayPal, Venmo, Patreon, etc are very anti-porn/sexwork and have closed accounts of independent SWers and content creators for a while.
Fair point, but I’d want insight into their reasons before assuming that they’re just blanketly “anti-porn”. It could be that they close those accounts simply because they don’t want to run into the consequences that the PornHub execs are facing now, and because they understand that the porn/sex-work industry in its current state is inherently prone to these sorts of issues.
I’m not speaking just to Visa and Mastercard… As a company, they will go wherever the market is going, this is more of the general public being anti porn or maybe the better term, anti sex-work. Most companies when they pull out is simply because of public perception, large shareholders and retail shareholders start pulling out because of bad press and they make their adjustments. If the companies themselves were anti-porn, they would have done this a long time ago.
Facebook, Twitter, Youtube etc… any social network that has a business model based on user submitted content receives and hosts all kinds of stuff and all kinds of people.
I don’t know what you consider evidence, but there are many many similar such stories about all of the major social network platforms out there.
Looks like the purge finally happened a few hours ago
I just noticed that. Over 10 million videos deleted and over 80% of it’s content. PH is officially off my bookmarks page. What a rough blow to the entire world. No pun intended.
I was personally part of the burp fetish community on pornhub, and I indeed am disappointed they removed all those videos. I had playlists with over 2000 burp videos and had like 44 thousand views on my uploads. I always knew this was going to happen but still didn’t adequately prepare for it. While understanding the information presented by everyone on this discussion, I still want to pose the question of where do we go next? Is this the end of our fetish community on larger platforms or will there be a migration over to somewhere else? I mean do people even care?
That’s true I wonder…
My guess is that the bigger platforms will follow PornHub’s lead, the general shift toward subscription-based content will continue, pirated content will still be available on the smaller ones, but the ones that offer premium plans will increase their prices and they will be taken down from time to time. A lot of coomers will go broke and join the no fap community.
That doesn’t convince me that the PornHub crackdown was for ulterior motives. For all we know it could signal the beginning of a series of investigations that target other sites next. And I’d wager that PornHub had vastly more videos containing or depicting illegal content or acts than either of those other sites, given the site’s nature.
Now, I need to make an important observation that will probably upset some people. Here it is: I find it telling that whereas other users on this site have praised the decision to regulate PornHub, the one moderator who has commented here is not among them. That might indicate why the progress in reforming this community has been so dissatisfying to a lot of people (I’m not the only one, even if I’m probably the loudest). Pirated content, sexual assault, underage content, and human trafficking are indefensible, and I don’t understand how any decent person could be anything other than relieved about this decision, even if there was an ulterior motive. because there really isn’t an “other side” to this. The people who are upset about this decision are unhappy about it because now they don’t get free access to pirated content, which is technically illegal and wrong anyway. That’s it. There’s really no defense on offer beyond that, and it really shows how stark the moral divide is in this community. I just wish the one mod commenting here were on a different side of that divide.
